Jonathan Franzen Ragin On eBooks
The best part is when Franzen is like “I’m glad I’ll be dead before everyone hates real books and stuff” (paraphrased for your convenience).
I used to work for an eBook device manufacturer and retail website, so of course, I’m loaded with opinions. Most major label devices don’t even compute “outsider” formats, so it’s not like piracy is 1-2-3 for the Kindle owner.
But what about the permanence of books? Franzen, haters, I consume what is cheap. I won’t read an eBook over 500 pages because the % annoys me. But as with new releases, the 9.99 wins. And I liked working for an eBook company, I’m biased.
ALSO I’m just waiting for when we can download books into our brain chips, anyways, right? Because that is obviously where we are headed. OBV.
I’d also like to add that I read the article on the computer.
